Gizo Island

Solomon Islands
8 April - 15 June, 2000

On March 22 the RV Heraclitus departed Papua New Guinea and arrived Gizo Island, Solomon Islands on April 8, 2000.  The crew remained in the region of Gizo Island until June 14 when they voyaged back to Rabaul, Papua New Guinea.  During their time in Gizo, the crew carried out a health and vitality study of the coral reefs of Gizo, participated in the Gizo cultural week where two of the crew members entered the "Iron Woman" race and won first and second place, and exchanged theater music and dance on three occassions with the people of Gizo.

As well, the crew of Heraclitus participated in a coral reef documentary film under the direction of William Barber of Synergy Docs.
