Sailing canoes, Manus Island

The ship Heraclitus arrived Rabual Island on June 26 after a lovely sailing voyage from Gizo Island.  During the voyage they passed over some of the deepest oceans at 4996 fathoms (almost nine kilometers!).  During their time in Papua New Guinea the crew conducted coral reef health and vitality studies of corals off Kavieng Island, and participated in cultural and theater exchange with the people of Manus Island.  They visited the islands of Rabaul, Kavieng., Hermit, and Manus.
