Vanuatu
September/October 2007

Vanuatu provided once again moments to treasure as we explored a little further north than our voyages through these islands in 2005. We conducted a Vitareef study at Waterfall Bay  in the Banks Islands chain, to assess the health and vitality of the reef lying beneath the spectacular double waterfall that cascades into the sea.  For more details, click here

We also soaked up the cultural festivities at the Gaua Arts Festival where troops of dancers imitated sea snakes and other creatures of the reef and bush.  We watched in amazement as groups of ladies stood in the shallows and made ‘water music’ with their hands, beating the sea’s surface to create a unique rhythm and sound.

And we sailed north easily to make it in time to the Papua New Guinea Kanu festival - an event that we have been looking forward to and planning for many years!
