  • October 11, 2003 at 9 AM  RV Heraclitus (RVH) sails back under Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco Bay  for the first time in 28 years.

 

  • October 11, 2003 from 10 AM – 12:30 PM  RVH journeys across San Francisco Bay towards Jack London Square in Oakland for docking.

 

  • October 11, 2003 from 1 – 1:30 PM Welcome Ceremony and Celebration on Jack London Square (at the foot of Broadway).  Vice Mayor Nancy Nadel welcomes RVH  and her crew home to the City of Oakland. Master of Ceremonies Jerri Lange.  Crew shares urgent message to Save Coral Reefs. Tribute to Ray Gatchalian (see Oct. 12th below). 

 

  • October 11, 2003 from 12 – 4 PM  Save Coral Reefs Fair on Jack London Square (at the foot of Broadway).  PCRF and Bay Area groups working on ocean, water and other environmental projects share their work at booths. Special appearance  by Wavy Gravy from 12 – 2:30 PM. 

 

  • October 11-18, 2003 RVH docked at Jack London Square. Events and coral reef educational activities on board ship and in greater Bay Area.

 

  • October 12, 2003 from 12 6 PM  Day of Ray at Jack London Square RV Heraclitus crew performs tribal dances from Solomon Islands and conducts educational outreach about coral reefs at the “Day of Ray” commemorating Ray Gatchalian.  Ray was a great friend and supporter of PCRF who was deeply concerned about the demise of the world’s coral reefs and was planning to be on RVH for the voyage from Seattle to his hometown of Oakland. Ray died tragically in an automobile accident in Chile in May. http://www.raygatchalian.org/events.shtml

 

  • October 16, 2003 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM Scott’s Restaurant on Jack London Square (at the foot of Broadway)  Reception to welcome RV Heraclitus to Oakland. Coral reef presentation.  Welcome remarks by Mayor Jerry Brown.

 

  • October 17, 2003 from 9:30 10:30 AM Chabot Space and Science Center, Oakland  http://www.chabotspace.org/  Presentation on mapping of coral reefs using satellite imagery and on coral reef research on board RVH for students in greater Bay Area. 

 

  • October 18 – 21, 2003 RVH anchored in Sausalito. Events and coral reef educational in greater Bay Area.  

 

  • October 19, 2003 from 5   8 PM Reception to welcome RV Heraclitus and to benefit PCRF at Ondine’s Restaurant (above Horizon’s) in Sausalito. Coral reef presentation.
