Kitty Currier was born in Ft. Collins, Colorado on December 16, 1981. Growing up she spent as much time as she could outside, whether looking for garter snakes, hiking in beautiful places, or playing soccer. Armed with a sense of adventure she headed out to California to attend Stanford University where she studied biology and archaeology when she wasn't competing with the track and field team, and graduated in 2004.
After one incredible summer studying fire ecology in North Cascades National Park in Washington, opportunity led her to take part in two summers of archaeological excavations in the Andean highlands of Peru and a quick jaunt down to Guatemala to survey an unexcavated preclassic Mayan site. In addition to exciting outdoor escapades, she enjoys photography and has a passion for learning to play musical instruments, currently dabbling in the piano, flute, chanter, Peruvian flute, and penny whistle.
Kitty joined the RV Heraclitus in 2004 and became the Second Mate. She also pioneered an on-board GIS mapping of coral reefs alongside the ongoing research programs. She will continue her responsibilities and roles on board the SV Infinity for the continuation of the 2000 to 2010 Coral Reef Expedition.
